HAVE YOU HEARD?

Do you have ringing in your ears or possibly hearing crickets, static, buzzing, roaring, music or voices. Tinnitus is a condition where you may perceive these sounds in their ears or head, even when there is no external sound present. It is caused by abnormal activity in the auditory system, which can result from factors such as:

Tinnitus can be temporary or chronic, and its severity can vary widely. In some cases, it can be a minor annoyance, while in others, it can significantly impact one’s quality of life. It is estimated that 15% of adults have tinnitus with 5-25% finding their tinnitus to be extremely annoying.

For this reason, Dr. Mussler recently attended a learning collaboration addressing tinnitus treatment, integrative therapy and active sound therapy. The team at Hearing Solutions have worked closely to build a unique approach to treating tinnitus.

Tinnitus is a multi-system phenomenon; therefore, treatment should address both the auditory and nervous system to promote full habituation and tinnitus relief. Mind-body Medicine is not only patient centered by you becoming the director of self-care to promote healing.

Our program incorporates both auditory and nervous system support including hearing treatment and tinnitus retraining therapy. Since there is a direct link between tinnitus and our nervous system, anxiety, depression and stress can influence the severity of your tinnitus.

So, if you have been told there is nothing you can do about the “ringing in your ears” know help is available.

On another note, we are glad to report in North Carolina, the sale of “locked” hearing aids is regulated by mandatory disclosure laws that took effect on October 1, 2025. Licensed audiologists and hearing aid specialists must inform buyers in writing if a device can only be serviced by specific providers.

Before completing the sale of a locked hearing aid, the seller must provide and have the buyer sign a written notice that states the device “can only be services or programmed at the specific facilities or locations”. This notice must disclose that the hearing aid uses either proprietary programming software or locked, nonproprietary programming software.

The legislation was created to increase transparency for consumers and to ensure they fully understand the limitations of a locked hearing aid before purchasing it. This is critical for consumer choice, as it prevents patients from being locked into a single provider for future adjustments and repairs.

None of the devices fit at Hearing Solutions are “locked”. This applies to devices from retail locations such as Beltone, Miracle Ear, Costco, Sam’s, etc. If you would like more information regarding this new regulation, don’t hesitate to ask.
